Quotes

"Doucet’s album “Blood’s Too Rich” sounds to me as if it comes straight out of 1977 — not the Ramones/Talking Heads/ Clash take on that year, but the Graham Parker/Dire Straits/Tom Petty version of it. Somehow, punk managed to reinvent rock music too, made it sound fresher and less pompous. Doucet is a terrific guitarist, as fluid and as melodic as Mark Knopfler back in the day; but he’s a proper songwriter, too. “The Comandante” has even been accepted as a substitute for Queen, on a good day, and now we’re approaching the awards season it must stand every chance of picking up the coveted Non-Glads Song of the Summer prize." -- Nick Hornby, (author of High Fidelity, About a Boy) who also placed "Cleveland" on his list of favourite songs in 2008.

"'Blood's Too Rich' is a landmark album, a fine example of the dominant narrative strain the great Canadian song tradition, at once dangerously personal and transparently allusiveit's Doucet who deserves praise for the power in these songs, for the evocative and quite fearless guitar work that makes this album a country rock marvel. Four Stars." -- Toronto Star

"Luke Doucet has constructed an airtight alt country opus... precise guitar work, well-enunciated vocals and an able team of studio musicians... Throw in Doucet's country-fried improvements and heap on the guitar solos, and there are more than enough highlights to make the trip worthwhile. Four Stars." -- Eye Weekly

"For Fans of Doucet's stylishly robust guitar work, the album is a welcome homecoming." -- Globe & Mail

"Judging by the strength of this album, 2008 will be a very good year for Doucet." -- Vancouver Sun

"There's a reason that some albums remain in a person's collection of favourites... Luke Doucet's latest release, Blood's Too Rich is one of those records, with dynamics taking precedent over intricate passages, the old adage about one picture saying more than 1000 words can be transposed to this album."-- Vue Weekly

"There are already some new albums worth checking out in 2008, including this one by Canadian stalwart Doucet... this is his best album yet." -- New Brunswick Telegraph Journal

"'Blood's Too Rich' is exhaustingly beautiful." -- National Post
